4 Ways To Travel Like A Hippy

Are you looking to travel, but don’t have a lot of cash to spare? Save money on gas, hotels, and plane tickets with one, two or all of these methods. In addition to saving money you’ll also be doing your part to help save the environment.

Hitchhiking

Hitchhiking is the ultimate way to travel as a hippy. It’s cheap and you’ll meet really cool people along the way. You can safely hitchhike across the country as long as you do it right. Most importantly you should trust your intuition. If someone stops to pick you up and you get a bad vibe, then don’t get in the car with them. Tell them politely that you’re trying to get to a different destination than where they’re going, or perhaps you’re not feeling well. Don’t get in a car with someone who has been drinking. Secondly, make sure that you have plenty of supplies like, food, water, and a portable charger for your phone. Also, make sure that you’re thumbing a ride in a place where it is safe and convenient for someone to pick you up. Make a sign that is clear and legible so people know where you are going. I’ve had plenty of friends who’ve hitchhiked across America. They met cool people and saw some amazing sights.

Train

Trains are a fantastic way to travel. Train tickets are fairly cheap, depending on your destination. Traveling by train is more eco-friendly than traveling by bus and you’ll see some pretty cool scenery along the way. Plus you get to get up, move around, and socialize with other travelers. Traveling on a train overnight will save you money on hotels. I’ve slept overnight on a train before and it was actually pretty comfy. Trains have a charm to them that airplanes lack. If you’re traveling through Europe you can get pretty much anywhere that you need to go pretty quickly. An hours ride and you’re suddenly in another country!

Biking

If you love to bike, then there’s nothing like riding a bike across the country. Biking is the most eco-friendly way to travel and you can go places that a car can’t. Biking is great exercise and you can also stop anywhere you want to. Pretty much anywhere you choose to travel you can find a good biking trail. Biking through the mountains is truly stunning and something everyone should try to do at least once. Once you bike across the country, you can’t wait to do it again I’m told.

Hippy Bus

If none of these methods of travel fit your needs you can always pool your money with your friends and buy a hippy bus! You can pack a bunch of people in a hippy bus, as long as everyone packs pretty light, which you should be doing anyway. Hippies have been traveling by bus for decades, ever since the first hippies followed the Dead across country. Traveling is always a fun experience, but it’s an experience that is easily made better when you’re with your best friends.

Traveling can be expensive but it doesn’t have to be if you travel smart and plan ahead. Make sure to travel safe and be prepared for whatever might happen. Most importantly, have fun. Happy traveling!

Why You Should Consider Doing Drugs

At some point in your life, you’re going to be offered the chance to do drugs. Ignore all the propaganda that you learned in school or from your parents. Here’s why you should consider taking drugs.

Drugs Are Fun

I’m about to tell you something that may be a little controversial, that people might not want you to know about: drugs are a lot of fun. They are as long as you do them responsibly. I’m not telling you to go out and start shooting heroin. In fact I don’t advocate for heroin use at all (or meth for that matter). I’m just saying that going on a camping trip and dropping some acid is an amazing experience that you should not pass up.

They’ll Open Your Mind

Certain kinds of drugs like weed, acid, and mushrooms, etc. will allow you to use parts of your brain that you didn’t even know that you had. Drugs will open up your mind and teach you a lot about the person that you are supposed to be. Are you going through some sort of a life crisis? Do you need help making a major life decision, like deciding whether or not to get married, or change your career. Taking some ‘shrooms will give you an epiphany and allow you to see the path you’re supposed to take.

They Open You Up To New Experiences

Drugs open you up to new experiences that you ordinarily wouldn’t consider. You’ll be introduced to new music, you’ll meet new people, and you’ll go to some amazing parties. You’ll discover interests that you didn’t even know you had. Taking drugs is a great way to bust out of the confining snow globe that is everyday routine.

You’ll Meet Great People

Some of the most interesting and incredible people that you’ll ever meet in your lifetime, you’ll meet when you’re partying. You’ll meet gifted musicians, great dancers, and even people who know how to spin fire poi. Most importantly most of these people that you will meet will become some of the most genuine, best friends that you have. This is not to say that everyone you’ll meet in the party scene is going to be a good person. There are pieces of shit everywhere in life. You just have to make sure that you’re hanging with the right people. For example, don’t hang out with meth-heads.

All Drugs Are Not Bad Mmmkay

Despite what you were told in school, not all drugs are bad. Yes, some are and I’m not suggesting that you go off and become addicted to meth or pills. Smoking weed is not bad for you in the way that those who hate it say that it is. People are scared of drugs because there is a lot of anti-drug propaganda out there. Smoking weed is not going to lower your intelligence and dropping acid is not going to fry your brain and make you think that you’re a carrot or the Prime Minister of Canada. Drugs can be dangerous if you do them too much. The same goes for many things. Eating too many of the wrong kinds of foods is also really bad for you. Eating a sugar-filled diet is way worse that taking mushrooms on a Friday night. Ancient shamans and tribal elders would often take peyote during rituals to help them achieve mental and emotional clarity. Many famous historical figures smoked cannabis (and grew it). It was not until the twentieth century that society began to get all up in arms over mind altering substances. The key is moderation. Be responsible.

Taking drugs is a wonderful and life-affirming experience, as long as you do it the right way. Don’t take too many, and don’t let them take over your life. I’ve never known anyone who got addicted to ‘shrooms, but I can’t tell you how many people I’ve met in my lifetime who were addicted to alcohol and completely fucked up their lives because of it. Make sure that when you are doing drugs for the first time, that you are around people who make you comfortable and people that you can trust. As long as you use common sense, you’ll be fine. Have fun!

8 Things To NOT Waste Your Money On

pay-bills-and-die

Does it seem like you never have any money? You’d be amazed how much money you’re wasting on things that you don’t need. You can have a happy and much more fulfilling life if you give up these things.

Diamonds

You don’t need diamond jewelry. It’s expensive, kinda tacky looking, and those diamonds you see on people’s fingers and wrists were most likely mined by a small child in Africa. If you are looking to buy something nice for your wife or girlfriend there is lots of gorgeous jewelry out there that is not covered in blood, sweat and tears. Don’t waste your money on diamonds. They’re overpriced and bourgeois.

House

Sure it’s nice to have a place that you can call your own, but do you really want to own a house? Owning a house leads to a lot of other expenses like homeowner’s insurance, repairs, and mortgages. Owning a house also means that you’re tied down to one location until you sell the house. Humans were not meant to stay in one place for long. We were meant to travel and live nomadic lifestyles.

Expensive Clothes

Everyone needs clothes, but you should not be wasting your money by buying full-priced designer clothes, that you’re probably not going to wear that often, and you’ll eventually be getting rid of. You can find all the clothes that you’ll ever need at a thrift store, or second hand consignment store. If you really like wearing designer clothes, you can find them at these stores. You just have to be really good at bargain shopping. I’ve been shopping almost exclusively at thrift stores for ten years now and I have tons of clothes, including designer clothes. Those jeans did not cost seventy dollars to make, and you should not be paying that much for them.

Fancy Restaurants/ Fast Food

This is not to say that you should never treat yourself to a fancy meal. Eating out is fun and delicious, but you shouldn’t be doing it everyday. Instead of going to a restaurant on your lunch break five days a week, try bringing in your own lunch. Allow yourself a treat one day a week, like on Fridays. The same goes for fast food, which is gross and terrible for you anyway.

Banks

Though banks were designed for you to keep your money in, they are constantly taking money from you. There’s all kinds of fees such as overdraft fees, service charges, not to mention all the hidden fees, and the ATM fees for using an ATM not connected to your bank. Banks also contribute to shady politicians so that they are able to continue stealing your money. Ditch the bank and go with a credit union instead. While we’re at it, stop paying with everything using your debit or credit card. You’d be amazed how much easier it is for you to keep track of your money when you pay with things in cash.

Individual Coffee Drinks

I know, we all love our morning coffee. There’s nothing wrong with that. That morning latte or cappuccino really adds up after a while. If you’re spending about five dollars a day on coffee drinks that adds up to twenty five dollars over the course of a five day work week. Those coffee drinks are also filled with sugar, so they are terrible for you anyway. Buy a coffee maker and brew a pot before you leave for work.

Cable/ Satellite

Cable and Satellite TV is pretty much useless with Netflix, Hulu and other online streaming services. How many of those channels are you really watching anyway. How many times have you sat down, channel surfed, and thought “how can there be 500 channels and there’s never anything good on ?” Cut the cord, take down the dish. You’re probably watching too much TV anyway.

Household Cleaning Supplies

I know, you need to clean your house, but you really don’t need all those cleaning supplies. Have you ever looked at what’s in them? The first ingredient is usually water. It’s easy and cost effective to make your own cleaning supplies. It’s also better for the environment.

Hopefully you weren’t wasting money on these things anyway, but if you are, now is the time to stop. Even if you cut out one of these things, like your daily pumpkin-spice latte, you’ll save a ton of money. This means that you’ll be able to take a vacation, or buy better food. Buy a treat for yourself. You’ve earned it.

Six Things I Learned Watching The RNC

trum at RNC

This week the Republican National Convention (RNC) took place. I’m sure if you are reading this then you are not planning on voting for the Republican nominee Donald Trump. Neither am I because I am a sane person. Unfortunately, Trump stands a good chance of winning. That’s why it’s important to know his plans for the country. That’s why I decided to spend my week watching the RNC. I also watched it so that I could spare you the pain, because it was definitely painful. I didn’t learn much about what the GOP has planned for the country, but here’s what I did learn.

The Republican Party Has No Plans

At least not any that they wanted to state to their delegates or the people watching on TV. All four nights that I watched coverage of the RNC, I heard only one policy plan. West Virginia Senator Shelley Moore Capito talked about how the Republican party planned to bring jobs back to the coal miners of West Virginia. That was as specific as they got, and even that speech didn’t lay out any policy ideas. The best speech of the convention was one given by Melania Trump, and it was plagiarised from Michelle Obama’s speech at the DNC eight years ago.

All They Have Are Platitudes

We know that politicians love to speak using platitudes, and catchy phrases. That’s what voters want to hear. Platitudes are not all that they want to hear, otherwise they know that they are being pandered to. All four nights were made up of nothing but platitudes. Each night had a theme: Make America Safe Again, Make America Work Again, Make America First Again, and Make America One Again. Never once did they give detailed plans about how to do any of these things.

Republicans Don’t Understand America

There was overwhelming hatred for immigrants at the RNC. This may not come as a surprise to anyone who has been paying attention to the Republican primary, but it was disgusting to watch. The first night featured mothers whose children were killed by undocumented immigrants. Never mind the fact that more crimes are committed by American citizens than undocumented immigrants; they have their narrative and they are sticking to it. The second night of the convention a protester from the activist group Code Pink, displayed a sign with the words “no racism, no hate”. Trump delegates attempted to rip the sign from her hands. When they were unable to, they covered her sign up with American flags. I don’t think I need to point out the irony there. America was built on the back of immigrants and the right to free speech. Republicans are completely out of touch with America.

They Really Hate Hillary Clinton

The only thing the GOP really has going for them is that they are united in their hatred of presumptive Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton. Almost every speaker spent their time talking about how horrible Clinton is, and how she deserves to be in jail. You probably have your own opinions about Hillary Clinton, as I do. Even myself who is not a supporter of Hillary Clinton felt disgusted when the GOP brought out two soldiers who were present at the Benghazi attack, and proceeded to use them to spread lies and emotionally manipulate the crowd. A fact check done later, showed that the claims they made were entirely false. The second night, former presidential candidate Chris Christie held a mock trial for Clinton, where he read off various charges (some bogus, others accurate) and asked the crowd to pronounce her guilty or not guilty. Spoiler: every charge was answered guilty. The theme for the night was “Make America Work Again”. Whatever your feelings toward the Secretary, her mock trial had nothing to do with bringing jobs back to America. Many Republicans dislike Trump, but they hate Hillary more.

They Have No Momentum

The Republican party has absolutely no momentum going for it. Most of the speakers were completely unenthused about Trump as their nominee (as they should be). They avoided speaking about Trump and instead focused on Hillary Clinton, the evil Democratic party, and how progressive values have ruined the country. Everyone in the audience was so bored. It was as though they finally realized what politics were actually supposed to be, and they were not pleased. The only time the crowd was excited was when they were chanting for Clinton to be locked up.

It was difficult for me to watch this convention, and I watch political coverage all the time. The speech that Trump gave on the final night of the convention was nothing but doom and gloom, and the usual fear mongering. Trump gave no specific plans for improving the country, rather he rambled for over an hour. The main thing I learned from the RNC, regardless your feelings about Hillary Clinton, Trump cannot be the president.

Did you watch the RNC without vomiting? Tell us in the comments!

5 Fun DIY Projects To Help Your Garden Grow

It’s summertime, which means you’ll be spending a lot more time in your garden. Warmer weather also means that it’s time to do some fun outdoor DIY projects. By using common household items, you can not only make your garden more unique, you can also keep a garden that is completely green.

Make Your Own Fertilizer

The last thing you want to expose your plants to is chemicals, which is why you want to learn how to make your own completely organic fertilizer. There are many ways to make your own fertilizer and most of them are very easy, and not very time consuming. The easiest way is to use banana peels. Bury a banana peel in the ground right at the base of your plant. The peel will eventually decompose, providing your plants with much needed potassium. You can also make your own fertilizer out of egg shells. All you’ll need are 20 eggshells and a gallon of water. Boil the egg shells in the water for just a few minutes and then allow them to sit in the water overnight. You can then strain the egg shells to make a spray.

Try This Recipe For Organic Bug Spray

One of the realities of keeping a garden is dealing with insects. Naturally you don’t want to use commercial bug spray because a) it contains toxic chemicals that will be harmful to your plants and b) you don’t want to support Monsanto. Luckily from DIY gardening site, An Oregon Cottage, comes this recipe for organic bug spray using mint and garlic (yum!).

Make Garden Benches From Discarded Wood

One of the best things about having a garden is being able to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Whether you are enjoying your morning meditation, or enjoying a glass of wine and a good book, every garden needs a bench. You could go buy one from the store, but it’s much more enjoyable to make your own from discarded wood. Check out some of these unique ideas from CoolDIYIdeas.com.

Maximize Your Space

If you live in an apartment or a duplex, you might not have as much space for a garden as you’d like. You can still plant a beautiful garden in a limited amount of space if you are creative about it. This idea for a spiral rock garden allows you to plant your own vegetable garden in a tiny corner in your yard. If you know where to find discarded wood pallets, you can also create this standing garden.

Personalize Your Garden

Now that you’ve got your plants growing healthy and strong, it’s time for the real fun! There are many different ways to personalize your garden, including crafts that your kids can help out with. Next time you’re out for a walk on your favorite nature trail, find some large flat stones. Bring them home and paint them with acrylic paint. You can use them to label your plants or have your kids put their handprints on them. The sky’s the limit! One time I helped a friend of mine hot glue colored glass on some old mason jars, which she then placed in her garden to reflect sunlight, similar to those colorful globes you often see. The result was amazing!

There are so many ideas out there to make your garden green and gorgeous. No matter how you choose to do it, you can create a beautiful garden using as little or as much time and effort as you want.

Why Hippies Make The Best Travel Partners

Hippies love traveling and so they make great traveling companions. You’re always guaranteed to have an incredible experience when you travel with a hippy.

Hippies Travel Light

Hippies as a general rule don’t own many possessions, so they won’t bog down your car with tons of luggage. This is a benefit to traveling with a hippy because there’s more room to pack essentials such as food, water, and all the neat, handmade arts, crafts, and souvenirs that you’re bound to find during your road trip.

Hippies Always Bring The Goodies

Hippies always know where to find the best drugs, and they always come prepared. You can’t have a good road trip without good drugs. Hippies always know which goodies are better suited for the type of road trip you’re taking. If you’re going camping with a hippy, he or she is certain to have some good mushrooms on them.

Hippies Know How To Camp

If you are traveling with a hippy, chances are you won’t need to worry about finding a cheap motel to stay in. This is because hippies always know the best place to camp for the night, so you can recharge for the next day’s adventure. Hippies are by nature social people, so there’s a pretty good chance that wherever you happen to be traveling, they will have a friend in the area. Even if your hippy friend doesn’t know anyone in the town you’re in, just hang out around town for a couple hours and I guarantee you they will find someone chill for you to stay with.

Hippies Barter Better Than A Used Car Salesman

When you factor in things like gas money, lodging, food, and partying, traveling is expensive. Luckily, your hippy friend is skilled in the art of bartering, that is trading goods for things that you will inevitably need. This is where having a large supply of good drugs will definitely come in handy.

You Won’t Need To Worry About Bad Travel Tunes

Hippies have the best taste in music, so they always know what music is best suited for the type of adventure you are looking for. Hippies love traveling with an acoustic guitar, so if you can’t decide what to listen to, you can count on your hippy friend to bust out some Grateful Dead covers to pass the time

Hippies Share The Best Stories

Hippies lead very fascinating lives filled with different adventures, so they always have the best stories to tell. You’ll hear stories about all the different varieties of people they’ve met, all the places they’ve traveled, and all the drugs they’ve done. I love listening to my hippy friends’ tales of debauchery. One thing is for certain: hippies never run out of stories and they have stories for every occasion.

Hippies Always Find The Coolest Souvenirs

Hippies have a knack for finding the most quirky mom and pop shops, which always have the best souvenirs. Hippies can find the beauty in anything, no matter how mundane. The smallest little trinket becomes a part of the next story you’re hippy friend will tell. Hippies always know where to find the best thrift stores. They have great style, so they always know how to find the most random items of clothing and how to turn it into a unique fashion statement.

I’ve gone on many road trips with different types of people and I’ve always had the best time when I’ve traveled with hippies. They know how to make any experience fun and exciting and they never run out of good ideas.

5 Brands Dominating the 420 Industry

There is a LOT of opportunity in the 420 industry. As more and more states begin to legalize marijuana both medically & recreationally, the competition is starting to heat up.

There’s a race going on folks. Over the next 5-10 years, thousands of brands are going to compete to be the best in their industry. Who is going to come out on top? No one knows.

Currently, these are five brands we think are doing an amazing job dominating their industry.

1. /r trees

Reddit is the front page of the internet, and r/trees is one of the largest 420 communities in the world with over 800k current subscribers. It has celebrity moderators like Snoop Dog & is unofficially known as the “Home of the Ents”.

If you want to post pictures of yourself toking, r/trees is a great place to do it.

2. Massroots

Massroots is known widely as one of the most popular, and only, cannabis focused social media platforms that exist to date. Started inside of a college dorm by creators Isaac Dietrich and Tyler Knight, the college students wanted to create a way to share images of their toke sessions without posting to Facebook where their families would find the pictures.

Its initial creation was in April 2013 and only a year later in March 2014, the social media platform was gaining 20-30 thousand organic followers a month, leading the iOS app to gain status on Apple’s 200 fastest growing apps list in November of that same year. Between it’s estimated 750 thousand current users and one-thousand various advertising contracts, Massroots has the opportunity to grow to be one of the largest cannabis communities on the internet.

3. Grasscity

Part headshop, part social outlet, Grasscity has been growing into one of the largest online headshops today since the opening in 2000. Grasscity still strives to provide the highest quality and variety of products to over 600 thousand members of it’s community shoppers and even more guests. From bongs and water pipes to nails and grinders, papers and stash tins, Grasscity has grown to be the one-stop shop for all of your toking needs (and one of the best places in the world to get a bong). In addition to the Grasscity inventory, the forums has also taken off as one of the best places to turn to for cannabis smoking how-to’s, Do It Yourself projects, and farming techniques.

4. Leafly

Leafly is commonly referred to as the largest cannabis-related website in the world, hosting over 8 million visits a month, and over 150 thousand individual strain reviews. Leafly is an excellent site that allows users of medical and recreational cannabis to read reviews of various strains, products, and dispensaries. Heralded for it’s depth in cannabis strain reviews, medical marijuana patients often utilize the website to determine the correct strains in order to assist their ailment without needing to try strains they’re afraid won’t be as effective. This review system also applies to dispensaries, from customer service, to full menus of the products sold at each dispensary. Edibles are also growing in reviewing popularity on the site, making Leafly the clear-cut choice to go to when looking to find more information out about purchasing cannabis.

5. Cheech and Chong

The days of Cheech and Chong will never be behind us. The iconic duo that has supported the marijuana movement through constant public statements, developing their own glass brand, touring across the world with their music, and of course, their collection of hilarious movies dating back to 1978’s Up in Smoke. The comedy duo still commonly utilizes their talents in the name of cannabis by touring with their music and comedy routines, as well as frequently lending their acting talents to their own side projects, and many movies and television shows as well.

Is smoking marijuana while pregnant safe?

Any user of cannabis can tell you the benefits that they personally experience. From anxiety relief, to nausea relief, to sleep aid, and others depending on the strain. It’s easy to see how marijuana can be claimed as a beneficial medicine for sufferers of chronic-pain, insomnia, stress, loss of appetite, nausea, etc. For those who are conscientious of about putting artificial medicines into their body, cannabis can seem even more attractive as a natural alternative. One group of people who tend to experience a multitude of symptoms that marijuana is said to aid is women whom are pregnant.

No pregnancy is alike any other, where expecting-mothers can experience anything from nausea to weird food cravings, from fatigue to anxiety; marijuana seems an opportune product to tackle some of the adverse affects of pregnancy. However, with the growing popularity of recreational marijuana use, people are still looking for science to point out the actual facts of how cannabis effects the body. One question that has been the subject of multiple studies is the effects that marijuana has on fetuses during pregnancy, and how it affects the mothers of those babies. Some studies have claimed that smoking marijuana during pregnancy can lead to a lower birth-weight, and some others claim that it leads to less-attentive children as they grow up.

Recently, the AMA proposed a policy requiring cannabis products to be labeled with a warning for pregnant mothers, “Marijuana use during pregnancy and breastfeeding poses potential harms.” There are similar labels as this on products like tobacco and alcohol, however other products tend to have more serious warnings due to the fact that there are no confirmations of the claimed dangers of smoking marijuana while pregnant as of now.

So what’s the bottom line? There are experts on both sides of the debate, but the consensus can be said to be that there is no consensus. If you wish to be without risk at all, you might want to consider cutting out the marijuana during pregnancy, however there are also studies that have claimed that a few joints during pregnancy never hurt nobody. As with many of the choices you make in life, it’s all about the degree of risk you’re willing to live with.

Have you smoked during your pregnancy? Do you believe some studies over others? Where do you stand on this debate, share your thoughts in the comments!
